Day 1: Fly to Tokyo.
Day 2 Tokyo: Transfer to your hotel on arrival. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 3 Tokyo: This morning’s visit the Tokyo Tower, Imperial Palace Plaza, the Senso-ji Temple and then wander through the Nakamise shopping street. Drive through Ueno before finishing at Akihabara or Tokyo station at around midday. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore independently.
Day 4 Kamakura: Today travel out of the city for a morning visit to Kotoku-in Temple with its Giant Buddha. After lunch travel to Kamakura to visit Tsrugaoka-Hachimangu Shrine, Hotoku-ji Temple and Jomyo-ji Temple for a tea ceremony. On the drive back to Tokyo travel via Yokohama Bay Bridge.
Day 5 Tokyo/Hakone: Drive by coach to the Mount Fuji Visitor Centre and drive up to Mount Fuji’s 5th station for incredible views. The journey continues to Hakone for a Japanese-style lunch. Part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, Hakone is famous for its hot springs, natural beauty and the view of nearby Mount Fuji. To complete the day you’ll cruise on Lake Ashi.
Day 6 Hakone/Kyoto: Board the Hikari Shinkansen (bullet train) for the two hour journey to Kyoto. Upon arrival enjoy lunch before travelling by road to Nara, the ancient capital of Japan. Visit the Todaiji Temple and Nara Park, one of Japan’s most famous and historically significant temples. Visit Kasuga Grand Shrine and Nara Nagomikan, a great place to pick up sweet food souvenirs of Nara.
Day 7 Kyoto: Today’s explorations begin with Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace buildings are arguably the best surviving examples of castle palace architecture from Japan’s feudal era. Continue to visit Kyoto Imperial Palace, the old residence of Japan’s Imperial Family. After lunch, visit Heian Jingu Shrine, before travelling to the temple of Sanjusangendo and ending the day at Kiyomizu Temple.
Day 8 Hiroshima: Travel by bullet train to Hiroshima, a city known for events on 6th August 1945 when it was the target of the world’s first atomic bomb. Visit Miyajima Island, the Itsukushima Shrine, the Peace Memorial Park, the Museum and Atomic Bomb Dome. Return to Kyoto by train.
Day 9 Kyoto: Today is at leisure for you to explore independently.
Day 10 Kyoto: Your tour concludes with a transfer to the airport for your onward jour
