Day 1: Fly to Delhi - Overnight flight from London to Delhi with Virgin Atlantic (regional connections available). (N)
Day 2: Delhi - Arrive in Delhi in the morning and transfer to the Eros Hotel (or similar) for 1 night. Afternoon tour of Old Delhi, including the Red Fort, Jama Masjid mosque and Raj Ghat. (D)
Day 3: New Delhi • Agra - Morning tour of New Delhi with a drive past India Gate and the former viceregal residence, both very fine examples of British imperial architecture. Continue to the tomb of the Mughal emperor Humayun and the Qutb Minar tower. Afternoon drive to Agra where you will stay for 2 nights at the Trident Agra (or similar). (B, D)
Day 4: Agra - Early morning visit to the Taj Mahal, arriving in time for sunrise. After breakfast, visit the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah and Agra Fort. This evening, visit Mehtab Bagh, a 400-year-old Mughal garden on the banks of the Yamuna, to see the sun set over the Taj Mahal. (B, D)
Day 5: Fatehpur Sikri • Jaipur - Morning drive to the deserted red sandstone city of Fatehpur Sikri, known for its array of forts, palaces and mosques. Continue to the pink city of Jaipur for 3 nights at the Shahpura House. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Jaipur - Explore the ancient Rajput capital of Amber on a full-day excursion. In the morning visit the palace of Amber Fort which displays many examples of Mughal influenced architecture. In the afternoon visit the City Palace, home of the present maharaja. (B, D)
Day 7: Jaipur - A day at leisure to relax, explore Jaipur’s many bazaars or take an optional tour of the ghost town of Bhangarh where it is possible to see the original streets of the abandoned town, featuring shops along the main road, havelis, a mosque and palace. (B, D)
Day 8: Delhi - Drive to Delhi in the morning and stay overnight at the Eros Hotel (or similar). (B, D)
Day 9: Shimla - Take the morning express train to Kalka followed by the narrow gauge mountain railway toy train ride to Shimla. Stay at the Oberoi Cecil in Shimla, the British summer capital during the Raj era, for 3 nights. (B, L, D)
Days 10-11: Shimla - Enjoy a morning guided tour of Shimla where highlights include the gothic Gaiety theatre where Rudyard Kipling once visited, the historic Mall and the Vice Regal Lodge. The lodge was formerly the summer seat of British government in India until the 1940s. Remainder of time at leisure. (B) leisure. (B, D)
Day 12: Delhi - Drive to Chandigarh this morning and connect with the express train to Delhi. Stay overnight at the Eros Hotel (or similar). (B, D)
