A well-established, beachfront property with excellent facilities and spacious tranquil gardens. The appeal of The Kairaba lies in its serene atmosphere, yet with a prime location close to the thriving, popular resort of Kololi.
A long-established favourite, it’s hard to choose one particular feature of The Kairaba to describe its allure: it enjoys a prime position beside Kololi beach*, the tranquility of the spacious grounds with resident wildlife is enticing whilst the many bars and restaurants of Kololi, The Gambia’s largest and liveliest resort, are only a stone's throw away.
(*Despite ongoing beach erosion from the strong Atlantic currents outside the hotel, sunbeds are still available and there are a few steps down to the long sandy beach which can be accessed at low tide. It is hoped that replenishment work will commence during 2016.)
The Kairaba's bedrooms are situated in two-storey buildings within extensive bougainvillea-filled gardens; from your balcony or terrace you can enjoy the gentle sea breeze and views across the attractive lawns. Following client feedback we base our holidays on the Deluxe rooms; these are situated in two-storey Portuguese-style buildings overlooking the gardens and are superior in size, quality and location to the standard rooms featured by most tour operators. These are located close to the hotel entrance and are available at a discount. Other room options include Superior deluxe rooms with their large picture windows, and Premium suites with a separate double bedroom which always prove to be extremely popular.
This hotel is all about peace and relaxation, which is only interrupted by the vervet monkeys and birdlife visiting from the nearby forest. There are no pool games or loud music during the day to disturb guests, croquet is more in keeping with the tranquil tone of the hotel although there is the occasional local band or entertainment in the evening. A beauty salon offering massages along with manicures & pedicures opened in January 2016 for a spot of pampering and, for the more energetic, there is also a fitness room. Due to the quality and range of facilities within the hotel, The Kairaba is very popular with conferences, groups and private or evening functions for Gambian dignitaries and foreign Ministers of State.
When it comes to dining, you have everything from à la carte to an extensive buffet during winter. Breakfast and the half board buffet are served in the elevated Kingfisher restaurant, allowing you to start your day feasting on views over the gardens as well as on freshly cooked delights. The Malimbe poolside snack bar provides excellent lunches and Shikra, the hotel's à la carte restaurant (open November to March), provides an air of sophistication. Alternatively, there is an informal atmosphere in the outside Africana Restaurant and Tropicana Bar. During winter, half board can be taken in any of the restaurants and from April to October half board is served in the Africana Restaurant. If you prefer to sample the local cuisine you also have an excellent variety of fine restaurants on your doorstep just a few minutes’ walk away in Kololi - along with the hotel's very own coffee shop and ice-cream parlour which also serves delicious pizza along with paninis and waffles.
If you like the idea of sumptuous buffets within the hotel, but also relish the opportunity to try the local cuisine, The Kairaba is offering a flexible half board package exclusively for our guests. This 'Bon Appetit' package includes four buffet dinners per week, leaving you free to dine at your leisure for the remainder of your holiday. There is something to suit everyone at The Kairaba.
With its beachfront location in the heart of Kololi and wide range of facilities within a tranquil setting, this is a very popular choice of hotel throughout the year.
